There are nearly fifty operating utility-scale hydroelectric projects in Alaska. The majority of Alaska’s existing hydro projects are located in Southeast and Southcentral. Alaska is also a marine energy hotspot. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimates that Alaska holds 95 percent of the total US tidal resource—the equivalent amount of energy to power 20 million homes. There are ongoing projects in Alaska to harness the state’s vast tidal energy potential. The annual meeting includes a full agenda of speakers and attendees may add on a tour of Juneau’s 1.6MW Gold Creek hydroelectric plant\, as well as a scenic flight over several Southeast hydropower sites and Taku Glacier.
