In his presentation “What was behind the creation of SIRI and Autonomous Cars?”\, Dr. Tether will describe the DARPA Grand Challenge. He will also discuss the technology behind SIRI\, which led to Alexa and Google Assistant. That critical functionality showed that a computer could gather online information\, allowing autonomous vehicles to predict the road and traffic ahead. \nBy 2019\, many car and technology companies had implemented autonomous car programs\, and Google’s Waymo launched the world’s first commercial self-driving car service. Guest speaker Nick Armstrong Crews\, Senior Software Engineer at Waymo and UAA alum\, will present a current look at autonomous vehicles in “Self-driving cars are here… and they’re awesome!” He will provide many examples “why these are perhaps humanity’s most capable and complex embodied artificial minds to date\, and how these clever\, plucky little robots can save lives and transform cities.”

SUMMARY:Super Basins 2021
DESCRIPTION:Photo 102800857 © Pichit Boonhuad – Dreamstime.com \n \n \n \n \n \n The applications learned from super basins continue to help drive the future of exploration and development. AAPG will be continuing its initiative to showcase some of the world’s greatest super basins during the fourth Global Super Basins Leadership Conference. This online conference will feature a full two-day program of experts and commercial masters on North American onshore and offshore super basins. The geology\, exploration\, and development of these basins provide great analogs that can help the industry re-think other global basins’ potential. \nIndustry leaders operating within these super basins will share geologic\, technical\, and business insights while looking at lessons learned\, challenges overcome\, and future views from these basins. The program will be valuable to those working in the featured basins and global explorers looking for actionable insights from North American analogs. \nBasins covered will include: \n\n    Permian Basin: Midland and Delaware\n    Anadarko Basin\n    Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway\n    Gulfcoast Super Basin\n    Appalachian Super Basin\n    Western Canadian Super Basin\n\n  \nThese super basins represent a fertile crescent of technology and know-how. New plays\, both conventional and unconventional\, have led to a rejuvenation of many basins long thought done. A focus on the geologic thinking that unlocked new potential and the technology and innovation has revitalized these basins. For some\, the key methodologies involved were horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing\, high-grading sweet spots\, and the proper well spacing needed to maximize hydrocarbons’ economic recovery. But for others\, it was simply questioning old paradigms and ingrained concepts.

ATA’s Seminar and Associate committees are already hard at work planning for a fun\, engaging event. ATA is excited to be able to “see” everyone to hear what is happening in your realms and share with you what is happening here.
