Skinny Raven Hosts Turkey Trot to Raise Donations to Food Bank
Skinny Raven, Alaska’s premier running shoe store, will host the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot in downtown Anchorage. It’s a day of fun and a chance for serious and casual runners alike to raise money and collect food for the Food Bank of Alaska. The 3K and 5K races start at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, in front of the Dena’ina Center and will finish inside the center on the first floor.
Last year, participants donated 1,158 pounds of food and $7,500, providing 30,000 meals to Alaskans in need. This year’s goal is to raise 1,500 pounds of food. Skinny Raven matches cash donations up to $1,000.
“Thanksgiving is the most popular running day of the year. It’s great to have so many people come out and support the Food Bank of Alaska” said Mark Iverson, Director of Skinny Raven Events and Timing. “We love to see friends and families being active and celebrating the holiday together.”
Just before the race begins, Alaska Chevy Team Dealers, a sponsor of the Skinny Raven Race Series, will give away a car. The drawing will happen at 10:45 a.m. in front of the Dena’ina Center and the winner will have the option of driving the pace car with Mark Iverson. Alaska Chevy Team Dealers president Jamie Turner will be on hand to announce the winner.
