ANCHORAGE, AK—Span Alaska Transportation earned three awards from the Alaska Trucking Association (ATA), recognizing its commitment to personal and professional safety on the highways, at its terminals, and at customer delivery locations throughout the state.
The ATA/ConocoPhillips Safe Truck Fleet of the Year is the Alaska Trucking Association’s most prestigious safety award, according to Aves Thompson, executive director of the ATA. “It is presented annually to the truck fleet with the safest operation for the preceding year. The criteria is the strictest in the industry, and is based on fleet miles driven, accident frequency, OSHA reports, and several other safety scores. ”
In addition to the top safety award, Span Alaska was recognized for most improved truck fleet safety and most improved industrial safety. The latter measures safety improvements at offices and facilities. The awards were announced by the ATA on April 18, 2018.
“Virtually every product shipped to Alaska is delivered on a truck. And Span drivers deliver more than 400 million pounds of freight a year, navigating some of the most difficult and dangerous roads in North America,” said Tom Souply, Span Alaska’s president. “The award honors our drivers’ high safety performance and our care for others who share the road.
“These three awards collectively reflect the dedication of our 200 employees who operate our truck fleet and freight terminals with the highest levels of safety and security,” Souply added.
