Resource Data Acquires Finsight To Expand Fisheries Work
ANCHORAGE – Resource Data, Inc., (RDI) has acquired Finsight, LLC, a company that specialized in developing IT solutions for the fisheries industry. The acquisition was finalized Feb. 1, bringing new talent to RDI’s well-established IT workforce and positioning the company to expand its fisheries work in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond.
“The fisheries industry continues to modernize, and RDI already creates and maintains some of its most important computer systems,” said the company’s president, Jim Rogers. “With the expertise and experience of Finsight’s staff, we’ll be able to do even more of this vital work.”
Finsight has served both industry and government fisheries clients since 2009, using advanced technologies to develop databases, web applications, and mobile apps. The company, managed by senior software engineer Rick Busch, included staff at offices in Juneau and Portland.
RDI’s own experience in the fisheries industry spans more than 20 years and includes developing data warehouses for tracking fish stocks, an online portal for collecting economic data about commercial fisheries, and a system for at-sea surveyors to record information on mobile devices. RDI and Finsight have partnered on projects in recent years, including developing a comprehensive website for commercial fishermen along the West Coast to report their catches.
“Finsight has always had the same high standards for quality and client satisfaction as RDI,” Rogers said. “Joining forces was an easy decision. And with added staff in Juneau and Portland, we’ll continue to provide the local presence and technical expertise that RDI is known for.”
RDI builds software applications, databases, and geographic information systems (GIS). The company has experienced steady growth since its founding in 1986, and now has 220 staff at branches in seven cities: Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Portland, Boise, Houston, and Minneapolis.
