GCI’s Kate Slyker honored as a 2017 ATHENA Society inductee
Slyker to be recognized at annual ATHENA luncheon this month
ANCHORAGE, Alaska—Kate Slyker, chief marketing officer for General Communication Inc. (GCI), has been named a 2017 inductee of the Anchorage ATHENA Society and will be recognized at the annual ATHENA luncheon on March 20.
“Kate is a positive force in our business community—a powerhouse leader with bold, creative and inspiring ideas. We’re incredibly proud that she will be inducted into the Anchorage ATHENA Society,” said Senior VP of Consumer Services Paul Landes. “As the chief marketing officer at GCI, Kate serves as a mentor to many other professional women. She exemplifies what the ATHENA Society is all about and is very deserving of this recognition.”
Slyker joined the GCI team as vice president of consumer marketing in 2015. She was promoted this year to her current position, leading the marketing efforts of Alaska’s largest publicly owned company. In addition to her role as CMO, Slyker serves as communications chair for the GCI Women’s Network (GWeN), a company initiative to embrace and empower GCI employees through growth, career development and opportunities. Slyker’s passion for mentoring and coaching diverse talent across all areas of the company has helped promote GWeN company-wide, allowing women to achieve their professional and personal goals.
Prior to GCI, Slyker spent 15 years at Spawn Ideas, the state’s largest advertising agency, where she directed some of the agency’s most successful ad campaigns. In her tenure at Spawn Ideas, Slyker was a trusted ally and mentor to her largely female staff, encouraging their skill development, career growth and confidence. She is also actively involved in the community and dedicates her time and efforts to Covenant House Alaska, Alaska Community Foundation, YWCA of Alaska, American Marketing Association and Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis, among others.
The ATHENA Society induction ceremony will take place during the organization’s annual luncheon on Monday, March 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage. More information on the event can be found at http://athenaanchorage.org/.
