GCI expands 1 GIG red Internet service to Matanuska Valley
Will celebrate with customer appreciation event in Wasilla
Anchorage, Alaska – On Saturday, Jan. 16, Alaska’s largest Internet provider GCI will begin offering up to 1-gigabit-per-second Internet service, known as 1 GIG red, in the Matanuska Valley. To celebrate, GCI is hosting a special customer appreciation event on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 2 – 4 p.m., at the GCI Wasilla store, located at 1879 E. Parks Highway.
GCI 1 GIG red speeds are up to 100 times faster than the current national average. With 1 GIG red, customers can download a 25-song playlist in less than a second, a console game in 33 seconds and an HD movie in less than 30 seconds.
“As an Alaska-based company, we’re committed to providing our customers with the latest technologies in the state and are now proud to offer them all at lighting-fast speeds in the Valley,” said GCI Senior Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Services Paul Landes. “With 1 GIG red, we’re propelling Alaska to the forefront of technology and can’t wait to celebrate this exciting step toward providing 1 GIG red service across the state with our customers in Wasilla.”
Up to 1-gigabit speeds will be available in the Valley from Palmer to Knik Goose Bay Road. Some service-area restrictions may apply.
As soon as the service launches in the Valley, GCI red customers in the area will immediately have access to Internet speeds up to 1-gigabit-per-second at no added cost. In order to achieve these lightning-fast speeds, customers must be using an upgraded modem. Many red customers already have their new modem, which has allowed them to access speeds up to 500Mbps leading to the launch of 1 GIG. Customers who still need a new modem can visit their local GCI store or pick one up at the customer appreciation event on Jan. 16. GCI is also offering on-site technical support at the event for customers to swap out cable modems.
The customer appreciation event will feature a grand prize giveaway, including a four-day trip for two to San Diego, valued at $5,000. The prize, being given away in conjunction with the Sportsman Channel, comes complete with a day of shark fishing on the waters of Southern California’s Pacific Ocean with renowned Sportsman Channel fishing guide and host of the “Ford Outfitters” show Conway Bowman. The celebration will also include free coffee and hot chocolate, courtesy of Kaladi Brothers Coffee, and guest appearances by twin Iditarod racers Anna and Kristy Berington. Customers will be able to snap photos with the twins and meet the newest, cutest furry additions to their sled dog teams.
