An Open Letter to Governor Walker
from the Alaska Support Industry Alliance
Dear Governor Walker:
There seem to be an incredible amount of unanswered questions about the future of Alaska.
There is however, one unquestioned answer to the challenges we face – responsible resource development. History has shown us that no other opportunity can provide the jobs, the tax revenue for the state and the economy for Alaska that oil, gas and mining can.
Today, Caelus Energy Alaska announced a significant light oil discovery on its Smith Bay state lease.
You must be extremely excited about what this can mean for the state of Alaska in terms of jobs, new revenue and a thriving private sector.
We are too. Our 600+ members and their 25,000 employees have been hurting; low oil prices and an unstable business climate have led to thousands of lay-offs. A find like this brings hope.
With that in mind we ask you to do everything in your power to advance this project, and for that matter, all projects that can help Alaskans maintain their core business, responsible resource development, for years to come.
Specifically, we ask that you would:
- Provide long term fiscal stability
- Reject proposals to increase taxes on the oil, gas and mining industries
- Develop a tax credit program that both attracts investment and is one the state can afford
- Honor the commitments the state has made and
- Promote Alaska as a great place to do business
We look forward to working with your administration to promote these projects and policies.
Thank you for your consideration,
The Alaska Support Industry Alliance
