Museum offers behind-the-scene tours

Published:

The University of Alaska Museum of the North is again offering behind-the-scenes tours to visitors this summer. Participants will get exclusive tours of the museum’s labs and work spaces, where collection managers and curators take care of 1.5 million specimens and artifacts.

The museum’s collections represent millions of years of biological diversity and thousands of years of cultural traditions in the North. The collections are organized into 10 research disciplines. Visitors can watch scientists, historians and artists who are working with the collections and ask about their research. There will be an opportunity to receive snapshots from the tour, as well.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours are offered Fridays at 2 p.m. Additional tours are available for four or more people by booking in advance. The cost is $10 per person. The tours are recommended for ages 14 and up and will be available through the end of August. For more information or to reserve a space, call 474-7505.
