Free Summer Admission For Military Families

Beginning May 31, 2016, the Alutiiq Museum will honor all active duty military and their family members with free summer admission. This is the seventh year the museum has extended this gesture of respect to America’s service men and women, as part of the program, Blue Star Museums, a national effort to support American troops.

“The Alutiiq Museum is proud to participate in this program alongside the Kodiak Historical Society’s Baranov Museum,” said Director of Operations Russell Armand. “As a veteran, I know military personnel and their families face many challenges. By participating in the Blue Star program, the museum recognizes their service. We especially invite the many service men and women stationed here in Kodiak to visit us this summer. This is our opportunity to say thank you for your many contributions to our community.”

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America. The program runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day and includes museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The free admission program is available to active-duty military and their family members (military ID holder). Active duty military include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and active duty National Guard and active duty Reserve members.

The program is administered by Blue Star Families, a national, nonprofit network of military families from all ranks and services with a mission to support, connect, and empower military families, with leadership support from the Met Life Foundation.

The Alutiiq Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of the Alutiiq, an Alaska Native tribal people. Representatives of Kodiak Alutiiq organizations govern the museum with funding from charitable contributions, memberships, grants, contracts, and sales.
