Celebrate the local flavor the helps make our city a distinct place. Play games on the museum lawn and listen to live music from local bands. Muse Restaurant Chef Brad Harris harnesses the power of the summer sun to cook Alaska fare in a solar kitchen. Enjoy an outdoor beer garden and purchase food from food trucks, shop for unique gifts from local business that specialize in in products reflecting Alaska’s summer bounty.

Oil Painting Crash Course
 

Oil Painting Crash Course

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23
 
Through a combination of discussion, demonstration and painting, this informative and hands-on class covers the various steps and techniques of oil painting. Participants will paint and take home a finished still-life painting, composed of the same colors used by many of the “Old Masters” of the 16th and 17th centuries. Taught by UAA art professor David Pettibone. $100 general/$85 member Register

Curator's Tour

Noon Friday, July 15
 
Join a Smithsonian anthropologist for a tour of the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center. Gain a better understanding of Alaska’s Indigenous cultures through 600 Alaska Native artifacts. Learn about traditional lifeways in Alaska’s diverse regions through clothing, tools, ceremonial objects and more. Tours are offered the third Friday of every month this summer.
