Writers, editors, broadcasters, photographers, publicists—have you done something at work this year that you’re proud of? Ever wonder how it would stack up against the best in Alaska and in the nation? Then the 2017 contest of Alaska Professional Communicators is for you.

The annual APC Communications Contest encourages and rewards excellence in communication in a wide range of categories, with entries judged by leaders in their fields of expertise. All contest entries must have been published, e-published, or broadcast in 2016. All work must be submitted electronically with exceptions for a few categories in the Books and Creative Writing division for which hard copies are required.

The contest is open to all Alaska resident communicators; entrants do not have to be members of APC. The 2017 competition has 64 categories, including 4 exclusively for undergraduate college students.

Winners receive feedback from recognized experts from outside Alaska, as well as certificates and recognition from their peers. A $25 contest participation fee is required from each contestant to enter the contest before the deadline of February 6, 2017. Additional fees are $25 for the first entry and $15 for each additional entry for APC members and $30 for the first entry and $20 for each additional entry for nonmembers.

Winners of the APC state contest are automatically entered in the NFPW National Communications Contest; nonmembers will have the option to become APC members to qualify their first-place-awarded entries for the national contest.

Complete information for entering the 2017 contest is available on the Communications Contest pages of the APC website at akprocom.org and on the NFPW website at nfpw.org/communicationsContest.php.

Alaska Professional Communicators, founded in 1961, is an organization of members committed to promoting high ideals in print, broadcast, and electronic journalism; exchanging journalistic ideas and experiences; offering continuing education opportunities to members; and serving the public’s right-to-know.
