United Way of Anchorage Awarded 3-Year Grant to Continue Helping Alaskans Sign-Up for Healthcare Coverage

Third year in a row

For the third year in a row, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has made a Navigator grant award to United Way of Anchorage to connect with Alaskans and help them make informed decisions about health coverage.

United Way of Anchorage is the only third year grantee in Alaska and is one of just 67 returning grantees in the nation.

“Healthcare access is critical to our overall well-being and ability to participate in our community,” said Sue Brogan, Vice President of Income/Health Impact, United Way of Anchorage. “Heath care access for everyone is our goal, and we are pleased to be part of a broad based partnership to increase access. It is an honor to be recognized for the impact we’re having. This grant will allow us to not only continue but expand our efforts, while providing the stability and expertise Alaskans have come to rely on when seeking help with enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace.”

A unique aspect of United Way’s outreach efforts includes the placement of a Navigator within Alaska 2-1-1, the statewide health and human services information and referral system. Together with the resources being made available by Alaska Primary Care Association, our partner and the other Alaska award grantee, Alaskans across the state can call 2-1-1 or 1-800-478-2221 and get connected to health coverage assistance in their community or receive help from the United Way Navigator at 2-1-1.

Navigators serve as an in-person resource for consumers who need additional assistance when shopping for and enrolling in health insurances plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
