Opportunity to Comment on the Importance of Developmental Screening

Draft indicators to measure Alaska Medicaid programs quality and cost effectiveness

Public comment period open until March 31 for draft indicators.

Governor's Council on DSE

The Department of Health & Social Services has issued a public notice inviting public comment on a draft set of indicators intended to measure the quality and cost effectiveness of Alaska's Medicaid program. The indicator set has been drafted by the Quality & Cost Effectiveness Targets Workgroup established to support the Department's Medicaid Redesign efforts under Senate Bill 74. These measures will provide an annual snapshot of program performance in several identified categories.

One of the indicators is “Developmental Screening During the First Three Years of Life”. It is Indicator P.3 on the second page of the attached document. We know the importance of early detection and intervention, and the long term benefits for children and their families, as well as the significant return on investment. Once the measures are established, annual targets will be set to promote growth toward higher levels of program quality, performance and cost effectiveness.

Now is the time to let Health & Social Services know how important early screening is to us. Comments are due March 31. The public notice with attached set of draft measures is available at: https://aws.state.ak.us/OnlinePublicNotices/Notices/View.aspx?id=185040

The invitation to comment and draft measures are online at:  DRAFT+-+ALASKA+MEDICAID+QUALITY+AND+COST+EFFECTIVENESS+MEASURES.pdf
