As in-state health care options expand, so do the opportunities provided to Anchorage residents for reaching a wide range of health and wellness goals. Anchorage Bariatrics, which opened its doors on August 1, offers a full spectrum of weight loss options, from medication-assisted weight loss and non-surgical options to bariatric surgery.
Anchorage Bariatrics is led by Dr. Justin Clark MD, FACS, who also serves as Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Providence Alaska Medical Center. He is the only fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon in Alaska. Dr. Clark takes a comprehensive approach to weight loss and caters his care to each patient, working with primary care providers and offering free support groups, an in-house clinical dietitian, surgical options and minimally invasive options such as the state-of-the-art OrberaTM intragastric balloon device. He is the only provider in the state to offer OrberaTM, the world’s leading weight loss balloon.
“It is a wonderful feeling to be able to help someone who has chosen to take control of their weight and is motivated to change their life,” said Dr. Clark. “Every single time I have a patient return after surgery and thank me for giving them their life back, I get to renew my love of bariatric surgery.”
Dr. Clark earned his MD at Northwestern University in 2006 and served in one of the nation’s top fellowship positions at Duke University, intensively training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He served the USAF as Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Assistant Director of Trauma Surgery at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson Hospital from 2012 – 2016. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a participating member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
A grand opening celebration for members of the medical and business community will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Alutiiq Center, 3909 Arctic Blvd. The event is RSVP only.
