Maniilaq Health Center Successfully Completes Joint Commission Laboratory Inspection
Results among best in MHC’s history
Earlier this week, Maniilaq Health Center (MHC) completed a highly successful two-day laboratory survey performed by a professional analyst from The Joint Commission (TJC). This inspection, which occurs every two years, determines the overall accreditation status of the laboratory. The TJC Laboratory Accreditation Program is based on rigorous standards and is internationally recognized as a marker of excellence. TJC accreditation ensures MHC Laboratory achieves the highest quality of patient testing and diagnostic accuracy.
The results of this inspection were among the best in MHC’s history, with no deficiencies found in crucial areas of testing and laboratory leadership. As part of the inspection, the TJC inspector met with representatives from MHC Administration and commented on the outstanding quality of care being given at MHC, the exceptional cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, and the friendliness of MHC staff.
The Laboratory is overseen by Andrew Martinez, MHC Laboratory Manager, and Dr. James Tiesinga, pathologist and Laboratory Director. Mr. Martinez attributed the Laboratory’s excellent performance to the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that exists at MHC among laboratory and medical staff, nursing, administration and other MHC departments and clinics. "The results of this inspection demonstrate the high quality of laboratory services that Maniilaq Association provides to patients living in Kotzebue and across the Northwest Arctic," Mr. Martinez said. “We are proud of the laboratory’s accomplishments and with TJC’s recognition of the excellent work being done at MHC.”
