ANCHORAGE – Governor Bill Walker offered the following statement on the US Department of Health and Human Services’ announcement of $10.4 million in funding to help Alaska to combat opioid abuse:

“Our state has been hit hard by addiction to heroin and prescription opioids, which is one of the main factors that has caused an uptick in crime. The only way we can solve a problem of this magnitude is by working together with everyone impacted and with every organization capable of making a difference. I commend our federal partners for increasing funding for treatment and prevention. Supporting services to help people struggling with addiction is key as we address the ongoing opioid crisis, and prepare for future challenges with other forms of substance abuse.”
