Anchorage Bariatrics welcomes new bariatric surgeon to its team

Published:

Anchorage Bariatrics, the state’s leading bariatric practice, has expanded its team with the addition of partner Dr. Sean Lee. Dr. Lee joins Anchorage Bariatrics from the Center for Obesity and Metabolism at Augusta University in Georgia, where he led and facilitated the bariatric surgery program as a nationally recognized bariatric surgery Center of Excellence.

Originally from the suburbs of Seattle, Dr. Lee received his Medical Doctorate at Yale University School of Medicine, spending a fifth year performing research in bone marrow-derived stem cells with the support of a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He completed his residency in general surgery at Duke University, focusing his clinical work on bariatric surgery.

“I was drawn to bariatrics because it’s a proactive way to approach obesity,” said Dr. Lee. “We can partner with patients and address obesity early in its course, affecting a dramatic positive change in their health. Watching my patients’ lives change for the better during our time working together is extremely rewarding.”

Dr. Lee and Anchorage Bariatrics’ founder, Dr. Justin Clark, met during Dr. Clark’s fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Duke University. The following year, Dr. Clark moved to Anchorage and Dr. Lee began his specialty training in the same program. Dr. Clark opened Anchorage Bariatrics’ doors in August, 2016.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Lee join our practice,” says Anchorage Bariatrics Practice Manager Kristi Naval, R.N. “Dr. Lee and Dr. Clark are passionate about what they do and bring the highest quality bariatric and minimally invasive surgical care to the state.”

Anchorage Bariatrics is Alaska’s most advanced bariatric clinic specializing in a comprehensive approach to weight loss. The clinic offers a full spectrum of weight loss options, from medication-assisted weight loss and non-surgical options to bariatric surgery.
