ANCHORAGE, Alaska (September 10, 2015)— Alaska Center for Ear, Nose and Throat (ACENT) is pleased to welcome Dr. Mark Brandt Lorenz as the newest member of the practice. Dr. Lorenz is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician with a subspecialty in neurotology, the study and treatment of neurological disorders of the ear, balance disorders, facial nerve issues, and hearing loss. Dr. Lorenz is the only fellowship-trained neurotologist in Alaska, and he is also the only doctor in the state qualified to perform cochlear implant surgery to restore a sense of sound to the deaf or profoundly hard of hearing.  Previously, cochlear implants were only available at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage or else outside Alaska. Dr. Lorenz’s hire means more Alaskans will have access to this type of care without leaving the state.

“Dr. Lorenz brings exceptional expertise to our practice,” said Dr. Dwight Ellerbe. “ACENT is growing, and we’re tremendously pleased to have not only his clinical knowledge but also his humor, warmth, and vitality on our team.”

Raised in Ohio, Dr. Lorenz attended medical school at Ohio State University and completed his residency in Michigan. He also trained as a fellow at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles before moving to Alaska four years ago.

“Joining ACENT is an opportunity to broaden my exposure to ear problems in Alaska and treat more advanced issues,” said Lorenz. “There’s nothing like helping a child hear her first sound. I’m looking forward to helping new patients and working with the great ACENT team.”

Dr. Lorenz will continue working at the Alaska Native Medical Center for approximately one week per month while devoting the rest of his time to ACENT.
