SITUATION REPORT

Tena Trucking Dalton Highway MP 58.6 Truck Rollover

TIME/DATE OF DISTRIBUTION: 4:00 p.m. March 24, 2015

POTENTIAL RESPONSIBLE PARTY (PRP): Tena Trucking, LLC (Tena)

INCIDENT LOCATION: Dalton Highway milepost 58.6, approximately three miles north of the Dalton Highway Yukon River crossing.

TIME/DATE OF SPILL: The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on March 24, 2015, and was reported to ADEC at 11:30 a.m. on the same day.

TYPE/AMOUNT OF PRODUCT SPILLED: The Tena tractor-trailer was transporting ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel. The punctured trailer compartment contained approximately 4,000 gallons of ULSD; exact volume released to be determined.

CAUSE OF SPILL: A northbound Tena tractor-trailer hauling fuel from Fairbanks to Deadhorse exited the west side of the roadway and rolled into the ditch. The front compartment of the trailer was punctured during the incident. The tractor, which separated from the trailer, remained upright and continued approximately 100 yards off the roadway. The driver is not believed to have been injured during the incident.

SOURCE CONTROL: None at this time.

RESPONSE ACTION: Tena has dispatched response personnel and is currently transferring fuel out of the damaged tanker.
One ADEC responder is on-site to monitor the response activities.

RESOURCES AT RISK OR AFFECTED: The closest body of water is approximately 1,500 feet from the spill site. The trailer landed inside a clear cut utility corridor which is expected to contain a fiber optic cable.

FUTURE PLANS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Complete removing fuel from the tanker compartments to achieve source control, remove the truck and initiate removal of contaminated snow, debris and soil. Utility locates will be completed prior to commencing soil removal.

WEATHER: Tonight: A mix of clouds and sun; high 22°F; winds northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow: Partly cloudy; high 26°F; winds north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
