Senate Approves Technical Revisions to Criminal Justice Reform
JUNEAU – The Alaska State Senate unanimously passed a bill today that makes technical revisions to the criminal justice reform package passed by the Legislature in 2016.
Senate Bill 55, sponsored by the Senate Judiciary Committee, implements necessary technical revisions to provide clarity and improve the implementation of the law, based on the recommendations made by the Alaska Criminal Justice Commission.
“This bill makes revisions to help improve implementation of last year’s SB 91,” said Sen. John Coghill (R-North Pole), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “We had broad consensus on this bill from the Department of Law, public defenders and the court system.”
The bill is now on its way to the Alaska House of Representatives.
