ANCHORAGE—The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to oppose Proposition 1, the salmon ballot initiative, which would amend, repeal and reenact provisions regarding fish habitat, development and human activity.
“It is clear that Proposition 1 will inhibit or even stop economic development especially in the areas of resource development and add cost and time to new construction on important infrastructure projects,” says Bruce Bustamante, President of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.
The Anchorage Chamber also released the following comment:
"Alaskans should want protection to Alaska’s fish and fish habitat as provided by the current laws and regulatory regime which has proven successful from Statehood. And we need to support natural resource projects as Alaska moves to build our economy in a responsible manner.
Proposition 1 places unattainable protection standards on development, road improvements, water and wastewater projects of all sizes. The negative impacts will range statewide if Proposition 1 passes.
The Board of Directors of the Anchorage Chamber stands firm, NO on Proposition 1."
