Advisory Message: Do not use Siri to call “108” as it will call 9-1-1

Published:

There is currently an article circulating on social media that directs people to tell Siri to “call 108.”  When people do that, the phone dials 9-1-1.  108 appears to be an emergency number for people in India, but in the United States smartphones are translating that number to emergency services.

So far our Dispatch center has received a few of these calls; we’d like to stop this scenario from continuing.  It’s incredibly important that 9-1-1 is only called in emergency situations as non-emergency calls that come through on that line inhibits our ability to help people who truly need it.
