GCI to Expand 1 GIG Internet Speeds to More Mat-Su Residents
Fiber network buildout will deliver 1 GIG access to 1,700 homes in the Meadow Lakes area
WASILLA—More than 1,700 Mat-Su homes will gain access to lightning-fast 1 GIG internet speeds, as GCI expands its fiber network into the Meadow Lakes area. The $4 million project covers 60 square miles and brings Meadow Lakes residents the same speeds they’d enjoy in major metropolitan areas, like Los Angeles or Atlanta.
More than 23,500 Mat-Su homes and 77 percent of all Alaskans currently have access to 1 GIG internet speeds.
“GCI pioneered 1 GIG in Alaska and we’re excited to expand our fiber network in one of Alaska’s fastest-growing areas,” said Tom Zulz, vice president, GCI Statewide Consumer Operations. “We have connected four additional communities and given access to more than 8,900 homes this year, so far, to 1 GIG internet speeds.”
The project also uses the latest, fiber-to-the-home technology to deliver connectivity to the Meadow Lakes area.
Cutting-edge speed deserves a cutting-edge store, and that’s why GCI’s Wasilla store will get a complete remodel and expansion this year. The new design revamps and streamlines the customer’s experience as soon as they walk in the door. The project also includes space where GCI small business customers can get personalized service.
GCI currently delivers 1 GIG speeds to 14 Alaska communities, including: Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Kodiak, Valdez, Seward, Kenai, Soldotna, Palmer, Wasilla, Anchorage and Fairbanks.
Once the project is complete, GCI customers in the area will have access to 1 GIG red Unlimited service, which is available for as low as $99 per month for residential customers who also subscribe to two Simply Unbeatable wireless lines. On its own, 1 GIG red Unlimited internet costs $174.99 per month.
