Fast-Growing Northway Fire Ignites Friday
Moving away from the dump to the southeast
(Tok, AK) – The Tok Area of the Alaska Division of Forestry received a report at 3:36 PM Friday of a new wildland fire burning near the dump at Northway.
The fire is being aggressively attacked from the air with three water scooping aircraft, three helicopters using water buckets, and two air tankers.
Four engines were sent to this fire from Tok along with a six person short squad to join the helitac firefighters, plus two dozers.
The 20 person Upper Tanana #1 crew was reassigned from the Tanana Slough Fire and is enroute to Northway.
This fast moving fire was moving away from the dump to the southeast, and at 8:00 PM was estimated to be at least 300 acres in size, burning in black spruce.
