Mountain View Farmers’ Market Kicks Off Its Second Season
Anchorage, AK, June 15, 2017 — Anchorage Community Land Trust (ACLT) announces the start of the Mountain View Farmers’ Market June 15th, from 3:00-7:00pm at 3543 Mountain View Dr. It marks the opening day of the market’s second season, to continue every Thursday through September 14th. ACLT worked in partnership with the Mayor’s Office and the Alaska Humanities Forum’s Leadership Anchorage cohort, as well as Mountain View businesses and residents, to create the market.
Produce vendors include Catholic Social Services’ Fresh International Gardens, Black Bear Farms, and Ba-Lescas Brothers Produce, with prepared food including Cali’s Smokey BBQ & Soulfood, Jennifer’s Tamales, Fire Island Bakeshop, Eva’s Cupcakery, and more, with entertainment from the neighborhood.
“This market is a great demonstration of how Mountain View residents and businesses work alongside ACLT to create real opportunity in the neighborhood. The weekday schedule and our large efforts to include new Mountain View vendors will ensure an authentic and unique market. We are excited to see the economic growth the market will bring, and for a chance to share Mountain View’s vibrant community with the rest of Anchorage,” said Kirk Rose, Executive Director of ACLT.
The market activates an ACLT-owned vacant lot on a prominent stretch of Mountain View Drive. This year’s season features an expanded lot, new public murals painted in partnership with artist Sarah Davies and youth from the neighborhood, and a new sound system and stage. The market builds on future plans to convert a portion of the lot into urban farming space for residents.
