SBA, Amazon Partner to Provide E-Commerce Education to Anchorage Entrepreneurs, Small Businesses Nov. 8

Anchorage first city to hold joint training just in time for holidays

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Alaska District Office and Amazon team up with local partners to provide their first e-commerce educational event for entrepreneurs and small businesses Nov. 8 in Anchorage, Alaska.

With an increasing number of consumers going online to shop, the SBA and Amazon are working together to provide small businesses with the tools, tips and information they need to be successful selling their goods and services online.

“With its isolated geography, Alaska can be a challenging place for small businesses to woo new customers,” SBA Alaska District Director Nancy Porzio said. “But with online sales, anyone in the lower 48 or the world can be a potential customer. We’re thrilled to be the first district office to offer this joint training opportunity with Amazon and help our local businesses become more digitally savvy.”

“Many people don’t know that more than half the products sold on Amazon come from small businesses and entrepreneurs in small towns and cities across the US and the world,” said Kyle Walker, Amazon head of new business strategy. “I’m inspired by the stories and ingenuity of small business owners, especially those in remote locations, and am excited to connect with entrepreneurs in Anchorage, share learnings and ultimately help them grow their businesses.”

The E-Commerce Tips for Alaska Small Business event will be from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Frontier Building in Anchorage and feature two panels: an expert panel and a small business owner panel.

 

The following expert panelists will share e-commerce knowledge and answer technical questions:

Kyle Walker, Amazon head of new business strategy, develops new businesses, tools and services to further empower emerging brands and small businesses to succeed on Amazon.

Jon Bittner, Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) executive director, who leads the Alaska SBDC network of small business advisers.

Cat Mason, SCORE mentor, who coaches entrepreneurs and small business owners in marketing, branding and business development.

 

The following small business owners will share their experiences in successful e-commerce practices:

Zoi Maroudas, owner of Bambino’s Baby Food in Anchorage, the first national baby food subscription company that ships directly to parents anywhere in the US. 

Chris Fischer, co-owner of Alaska Beach Stone Lamp in Homer, Alaska who creates handcrafted lamps made from stone and wood.
