Bring your ideas and meet fellow entrepreneurs and innovators in our community and around Alaska.

We are gearing up for the tenth Startup Weekend in Alaska in the last five years (five in Anchorage and five in Fairbanks), to be held at The Boardroom located at 601 West 6th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. The 2017 fall Startup Weekend will begin at 6PM on November 10th and conclude Sunday evening with judging. This year’s vertical theme is Arctic Technology and Energy, but people with any new venture ideas are encouraged to attend. Teams completing the weekend will be building a network of startup resources and entering a pipeline of events and funding that could lead to over $90,000 of investment over the next year. We expect all the teams to apply to the next Launch Alaska accelerator program in 2018.

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, students, techies, marketers, product managers, lawyers, nerds, engineers, and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups – in a risk-free environment!

We are welcoming entrepreneurs from all over Alaska and join them with business leaders to build skills, meet incredible people and launch successful startup businesses.

Startup Weekend is a nationwide program founded by the Kauffman Foundation. Since its inception there have been 23,000 teams formed by 193,000 entrepreneurs in 150 countries resulting in 2,900 events to date. This year’s event will be part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week and a special Global Startup Weekend effort to hold over 200 events around the world with over 15,000 participants.

Startup Weekends begin with an open-mic 60-second pitches that result in the formation of small teams around the best, most viable concepts. Teams spend Saturday and Sunday learning and focusing on how to get to customer development, validating their ideas and maybe even building prototypes with the help of experienced mentors. On Sunday, teams demo their products or share about their services and receive valuable feedback from a panel of business experts.

The best business idea will win prizes from sponsors including:

  • Electronic conference room and shared work space use

  • Marketing and promotional consulting and services

  • Training and access to the Anchorage Makerspace

  • Products and cool swag!
