  • Many commissioners and departments are ignoring their charge to look for efficiencies and opportunities to privatize services.
  • Many bills that don't solve our fiscal problems or help the private sector (that is in a recession) have been introduced and are taking time away from the most important issues. 
  • Senate Majority is looking to reform the foundation formula for education
  • Tax Foundation presents new information about effects of various taxes on Alaska's economy

January 23, 2017  

  • Senate Finance Committee meeting – report on legislative intent language from FY17 budget. Multiple departments ignored various sections of intent language

 January 24, 2017

  • Senate State Affairs Committee – Hearing on PFD and how it impacts Alaska, introduction of 2 bills by Sen. Dunleavy to pay out the other half of the dividend from 2016 that Gov. Walker cut

 January 25, 2017

  • Senate Education Committee – in depth hearing on K-12 Foundation Formula funding mechanism. Expect changes to the formula funding from Senate Majority
  • House Finance Committee – presentation by Gunnar Knapp (former head of ISER) on implications of different fiscal choices over time.  This information was already presented to many committees last year. 

 January 26, 2017

  • Senate State Affairs Committee – presentation by Jared Walczak, with the Tax Foundation, on the effects of various taxes on Alaska's economy

 January 28, 2017

  • Senate State Affairs Committee – hearing and public testimony on SB 1 and SB 2, Sen. Dunleavy's bills to restore 2016 PFD to full amount.
