A team of Stantec’s Anchorage architects, engineers and design industry professionals recently pitched in to help improve the Stephen’s Park Apartments, an affordable multi-family housing complex in Midtown Anchorage. Teaming with NeighborWorks Alaska, 25 Stantec employees helped paint the exterior stairs and stairwells at the complex.
The apartment complex is home to 300 residents, including nearly 100 children, and many senior citizens. NeighborWorks Alaska organizers said partnering with Stantec to help improve the facility in advance of winter is an important part of maintaining the organization’s multiple housing properties while also raising awareness of the need for affordable housing in Anchorage.
“We truly believe in their mission of providing affordable housing and we’re pleased to have the opportunity to help NeighborWorks Alaska,” said Tim Vig, Stantec senior principal in Anchorage. “There is a great unmet demand for affordable housing in our community. While our promise is to design with community in mind, we also like to get involved improving the community with some sweat equity.”
The effort was part of Stantec in the Community Day. It was the fourth annual volunteer day for the company in which about 8,000 of the firm’s employees from around the world participated in service projects within their local communities. This was Stantec’s second year working with NeighborWorks Alaska helping them with a variety of projects.
