Will Rhodes, CPG recently earned his Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) certification and is now a CPG in Alaska.
The CPG certification is administered by the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), an association dedicated to promoting geology as a profession. This certification recognizes geologists with the relevant education, training and eight or more years of experience in the study of the earth, and who are engaged in the investigation and evaluation of earth materials and fluids and geologic processes. Once CPG certification is received from AIPG, the State of Alaska licensing board will grant an Alaska CPG.
“I pursued my CPG as it provides a formal recognition of my education, experience and ethical conduct as a practicing geologist in Alaska,” said Will. “A measure of credibility comes with a professional certification. Ultimately, obtaining my CPG will strengthen my reputation with existing clients, bolster my value to potential clients and add value to the R&M’s team in proposal efforts.”
Will is a Senior Geologist in R&M’s Fairbanks Office with eight years of experience in geology and environmental engineering. He is responsible for supporting ongoing engineering geology and environmental work for a variety of civil and environmental projects, including subsurface investigations, site characterization, material site assessments, geologic mapping, engineering geology, geotechnical/environmental site investigations, technical report writing and data analysis. Will is experienced in contaminated site management, including site characterization and monitoring activities; remediation system installation and implementation; and environmental sampling. He has particular expertise with vapor intrusion assessments, chlorinated solvent release characterization and remediation. Under this contract, R&M will assist the USACE in F-35 infrastructure development at Eielson Air Force Base and other military installations throughout Alaska. Will is also involved with R&M’s environmental term contract with the Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) where he is assisting with management of FAI’s contaminated sites and other environmental liabilities.
Will has a B.S. in Geology and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He has spent most of his adult life in Alaska and enjoys spending time in Alaska’s wilderness throughout the year. He resides near Fairbanks in one of Alaska’s most prominent mushing communities (Two Rivers) and his life outside the office revolves around breeding, training and racing sled dogs with his wife and daughter at their kennel, Mackey’s Alaskan Distance Dogs.
