R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) named Len Story, PLS as the firm’s new Chief Executive Officer and Bret Coburn as Chief Financial Officer, effective January 1, 2016. This is a planned change as laid out in the firm’s succession plan.
Len Story joined R&M in 1979, as a Survey Technician. As CEO, Len will continue to implement the firm’s strategic plan and be responsible for the firm’s operations, working closely with firm staff to continue R&M’s proud tradition of providing quality professional services on the projects that make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of Alaskans.
“This is a very humbling experience for me. I still remember my first day at R&M – more than 37 years ago. I’m honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead this exceptional organization of creative, dedicated and talented professionals,” said Len about his transition to CEO. “Through the hard work of many individuals, R&M has become one of the largest, most versatile and respected companies in Alaska. We need to prioritize innovation that is centered on providing value to our clients and community. Through a commitment to quality and excellence in all we do, and empowering our staff, R&M will continue to succeed.”
Len offers strong leadership and operational knowledge and has played an important role in implementing the firm’s operational structure since 2002. A member of R&M’s senior management team, Len played a vital role in advancing the firm’s existing work by supporting the operational departments and leading execution of R&M’s strategic plan. In conjunction with assuming the CEO role, he was also voted President of R&M’s Board of Directors.
Bret Coburn served as R&M’s Chief Executive Officer with responsibility for oversight of the firm’s administrative and financial functions from 2002 to 2014. He is moving into the CFO position at R&M and will continue to be responsible for financial matters at the firm, and providing oversight of the firm’s accounting and administrative staff. Bret was recently voted Vice President of R&M’s Board of Directors.
“It has been an honor to serve as R&M’s CEO. The company has grown and matured over the past decade since our ownership transition, evolving into a truly great place to work. I’m very proud of the contribution our employees make every day in the Alaskan communities where we work. Moving forward, R&M has a great future with Len Story assuming the role of CEO. His competency, vision and operational experience will serve the company well,” said Bret about his tenure as R&M’s CEO.
Prior to joining R&M, Bret worked for the St. George Tanaq Corporation in various positions, ending his 19-year tenure as the corporation’s Chief Executive Officer.
