PND Engineers Names New President, Senior Vice President, Shareholder

ANCHORAGE, AK – The Board of Directors of PND Engineers, Inc. (PND) has elected Jim Campbell, P.E., to the position of president, and Dempsey Thieman, P.E., S.E., to senior vice president. Campbell and Thieman succeed John Pickering, P.E., and Mike Hartley, P.E., respectively.

Campbell, who joined PND in 1995, brings pride and enthusiasm to his new role. “PND is a premier civil and structural engineering company with a focus on serving our clients and engineering innovation” he said. “Our company’s gradual but steady growth over the past 37-plus years is a result of clients’ trust and return business.  Our staff is top-notch, and our customers deserve no less. I see great things in PND’s future.”

Thieman looks forward to helping perpetuate the culture of leadership that has shaped PND into the successful company it is today. “We have grown since I came aboard more than 20 years ago, and with growth has come opportunity and challenge,” Thieman said. “Nonetheless, our values have remained constant. Our staff is committed to client service and satisfaction, and working with integrity as a team to provide innovative and cost effective design solutions. Our motivation, and inspiration, come from our customers.”

Pickering, who has retired, joined PND in 1990 and served as president since 2012. “The last 25-plus years have been quite a ride for me and I appreciate all of the support that has been provided over the years,” he said. “I will miss working for PND as I truly enjoyed coming to work every day. There were always new challenges to address and new problems to solve.”

Hartley, who has been with PND since 1981, assumed the role of senior vice president in 2012 and also helped lead PND through many transitions, to include expanding the firm’s reach internationally and into new market sectors. He will remain with PND in a consultant capacity, continuing to participate in several ongoing projects and providing expertise on select new efforts.

PND’s board has also selected Torsten Mayrberger, P.E., PhD, to be a principal in the firm. Mayrberger has 15 years of professional engineering experience, and joined PND’s Anchorage office in 2009. He specializes in geotechnical investigations and deep foundation design in permafrost soils, as well as geotechnical investigations in marine and non-permafrost soils. He was also instrumental in establishing PND’s AASHTO-accredited state-of-the-practice geotechnical lab testing facility in Anchorage.

PND, founded in Anchorage in 1979, is a full-service engineering firm that provides civil, structural, arctic, marine, geotechnical, and coastal engineering; hydrology; surveying; environmental permitting; project management; and construction inspection services for a range of projects. PND has offices in Anchorage, Palmer and Juneau, Alaska; Seattle, Wash.; and Houston, Texas, as well as a subsidiary, PND Engineers Canada, Inc., in Vancouver, B.C.
