Norton Sound Regional Hospital was selected as the 6th most beautiful hospital in the U.S. during Soliant Health’s 8th annual “Most Beautiful Hospitals” competition. Soliant Health, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the U.S., collects votes based on nominations for overall beauty as well as support from the community, client/patient-base, employees and other industry healthcare workers. The top 20 hospitals were culled from a field of 70 nominations, with Norton Sound Regional Hospital receiving nearly 11,000 votes. Kumin was the Architect of Record, with Mahlum Architects of Seattle as medical planning consultant. The voting indicates a high degree of current and former employee satisfaction with the beauty and functionality of the facility. Also evident is a strong sense of pride in the facility from the community it serves. The 2013 hospital replaced the existing 60-year-old hospital. At two-thirds larger than its predecessor, the new hospital features large windows with stunning views of the surrounding tundra, beautiful Alaskan native artwork incorporated throughout the facility, and state of the art comprehensive healthcare facilities for Nome and all of the communities of Norton Sound.
Kumin was founded in 1977 in Anchorage, Alaska. Services include architecture, master planning and interior design for urban, rural and remote facilities. For more information, visit kuminalaska.com.
