Short outages to affect some Chugach customers Tuesday night

Customers of Chugach Electric Association in several communities south of Anchorage will experience a short power outage Tuesday evening.  Customers at Summit Lake, Sunrise, Hope, Portage, Whittier, Girdwood and Indian will be affected.

The outage to each group is expected to be less than a minute long as Chugach reconfigures the electric system to serve them from its Cooper Lake Hydroelectric Project in a test of operational capabilities.  The outages are expected to occur around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2.

No disruption of service is expected when Chugach returns the system to normal on Thursday morning.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power to Railbelt Alaskans through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
