MEA Board Approves 1st Quarter Rate Adjustment

Voted to authorize an increase of 1.91 percent in base rates

Palmer, AK: The Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors voted on November 9, 2015 to authorize an increase of 1.91 percent in base rates, effective the first quarter of 2016. The average MEA member uses just over 700 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. These members can expect to see a total monthly increase of about $1.34 as a result of this base rate adjustment.

Under the terms of rules set by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA), MEA is allowed on a quarterly basis to file for limited increases or decreases in base rates, provided that the rate adjustments stay within certain financial parameters established by the RCA. The rate filing is based on the test year ending September 30, 2015 and will take effect during the first week of January 2016, pending RCA approval.

Matanuska Electric Association, Inc., Alaska's oldest and second-largest electric cooperative, is owned and operated by its 50,000 members. MEA’s service area covers more than 4,200 miles of power lines in Southcentral Alaska, and the co-op leads projects statewide to provide customers with affordable, reliable energy. www.mea.coop
