IGU Groundbreaking Celebration Planned June 5
'Hats off to you!'
Fairbanks, AK – The Interior Gas Utility will hold a groundbreaking celebration for Phase 1 on Friday, June 5, 2015 at noon. The event will be outside at the North Pole Plaza Mall parking lot adjacent to the North Pole Hotel. The theme is “Hats off to You!” and the public is welcomed and encouraged to wear a hat and attend.
Key comments will be made by Governor Walker, Senator Coghill and City of North Pole Mayor Bryce Ward. Dana Pruhs, AIDEA Board Chair and Mike Meeks, IGU Board Chair will also make remarks. Lisa Herbert of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce will MC the celebration, and the North Pole High School Choir will sing the national anthem.
“Energy prices in Interior Alaska have been far too high for far too long,” said IGU Board Chair, Mike Meeks. “Now is a time to recognize the hard work of the public, the business community, elected officials and volunteers that has gotten us to break ground on a natural gas distribution system. While this is a milestone, we still have a lot of work to do to deliver natural gas to this community as affordably and as quickly as possible.”
Installation plans for Phase 1 include 70 miles of pipe installed as a main natural gas line from May to September. In three zones, three contractors plan to run 16 crews.
The Interior Gas Utility is a subsidiary of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, and is committed to delivering affordable natural gas to the most people as possible, as soon as possible.
