By the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development
SEWARD, Alaska— The Southwest Alaska Pilots Association is donating two $2,500 scholarships for AVTEC’s Alaska Maritime Training Center located in Seward, Alaska. The Alaska Maritime Training Center’s mission is to help build a maritime workforce focused on Alaska industry needs and prepared for Alaska’s challenging operational environment, including ice-covered waters and the Arctic region.
“Our hope is that the monies can be directed towards a beneficiary who, while a worthy candidate, may also need extra help in pursuing their dream,” said Captain Peter Garay, President of the Southwest Alaska Pilots Association. “We hope this small donation will assist someone in achieving or furthering their maritime career.”
“We thank the Southwest Alaska Pilots Association for choosing to support AVTEC students with their generous donation, and helping to further the mission of the Alaska Maritime Training Center,” said Labor Commissioner Heidi Drygas. “These scholarships will help train the next generation of Alaska’s maritime workforce.”
