School Board to host Leadership Academy for public servants interested in education
The Leadership Academy consists of monthly sessions spanning the course of the year. Sessions include topics such as board standards, governance versus management, school finance, assessments and accountability, and more.
"An effective board can positively impact student achievement and growth," said Board President Tam Agosti-Gisler. "Boards in high-achieving districts understand how to goal set, monitor their progress with data, possess detailed knowledge about the district, and have a good working relationship with the superintendent allowing him or her to manage while the board governs. Prospective board members who complete this Leadership Academy will be prepared to 'hit the ground running' immediately after winning a school board seat."
Agosti-Gisler said participants not intending to run for a school board seat will find the Leadership Academy prepares them to be effective education volunteers and advocates in the community.
