Mountain View Community Center Boys & Girls Club Announces 8th Annual Faster than a Falcon 5K Run on Saturday, May 13, 2017
(Anchorage, Alaska), (May 13, 2017) – Clark Middle School Guidance Counselor, Dustin Hawes founded Faster than a Falcon 5K in 2010 run to help raise funds for the Mountain View Community Center Boys & Girls Club. Since then the 5k run has grown and is now a popular annual event, with over 1,000 runners anticipated this year.
The race will start at the Mountain View Lions Park at 501 North Pine Street with a warm-up run for kids at 9:15. The full 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. A special prize will be awarded to each participant who finishes the race faster than the “Falcon” which averages about 27 minutes each year. An awards ceremony will be held at 10:30 near the Finish Line at the Mountain View Lions Park. Elementary, Middle and High School students can participate in the Faster than a Falcon 5K for free, thanks to support from our sponsors: Enstar, Cook Inlet Housing Authority, Anchorage Community Land Trust, Anchorage Running Club, Mountain View Family Dentistry, Skinny Raven Sports, Kittiwake Alaskan Apparel and Top of the World Graphics.

In addition to raising funds for the Mountain View Clubhouse, this 5k run brings awareness of the great things happening in Mountain View, highlighting that it is a family community that cares about its kids. Also, the course runs through the Mountain View neighborhood, where Cook Inlet Housing Authority has built an array of beautiful affordable homes for local families, in addition to the neighborhood revitalization projects by Anchorage Community Land Trust.
The Mountain View Community Center Boys & Girls Club has served neighborhood youth since 1988. The Club provides programs for more than 1,000 boys and girls in a safe place with three areas of focus: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Character and Leadership.
