Anonymous Sitkan Contributes $25,000 to Legacy Fund
By the Greater Sitka Legacy Fund
(Sitka, ALASKA) –The Greater Sitka Legacy Fund (GSLF), an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), received a $25,000 donation to its permanent endowment from a Sitka resident who wishes to remain anonymous.
The donor is a founding member of GSLF who has made annual contributions to the fund through Pick.Click.Give. This year, the donor was in the position to make a significant gift, and had been preparing to do so when GSLF announced a major donation from Sitka resident Beverly Caldwell. “Darn," thought the donor. “She beat me to it!”
The donor contacted GSLF Program Manager, Robin Sherman, who explained that Rasmuson Foundation and ACF will match all gifts to the GLSF permanent endowment up to $125,000 though 2020. The donor was happy to hear that her contribution will indeed be eligible for the match. GSLF has now raised $53,310 for its permanent endowment in 2017, which is 42 percent of the way to reaching its goal of raising $125,000 by 2020.
“This time of year truly brings out the best in people,” said GSLF Chair, Mike Venneberg. “Giving is contagious. We are grateful to Mrs. Caldwell for starting a trend, to our most recent donor for building on the momentum, to everyone who has already contributed, and to those who are still planning to do so in 2017.”
GSLF is still gratefully accepting 2017 gifts to its permanent endowment. In addition, the fund is working to raise $15,000 for its operating endowment in 2017, to qualify for an additional $15,000 in matching funds from Rasmuson Foundation and ACF. The operating endowment supports GSLF’s sustainability. As of December 26, GSLF still has an additional $5,775 to raise for the operating endowment before the end of 2017 to meet this goal.
