Jon Isaacs Elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of the North
Jon Isaacs has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of the North. The Institute is an Alaska-based non-profit organization that promotes informed dialogue and brings together stakeholders on issues related to responsible use of lands and resources while improving the quality of life for both Alaskans and residents of Arctic communities worldwide. It is known for supporting regional events such as the North by North Festival, Alaska Dialogue Roundtables, facilitation of Alaska Climate Action Leadership Team Task Force; and International Arctic events such as the Arctic Energy Summit, Mineral Development in the Arctic Workshops, Arctic Renewable Energy Atlas; and support of Arctic Council activities related to the past U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council, the Climate Secretariat, and the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna Working Group. The Institute of the North is finalizing arrangements to develop the Alaska Center for the Commons, which will advance Alaska’s land and resource management framework to other countries that are interested in models for resource development that benefit their residents. Jon is a Senior Planner with AECOM in Anchorage. He has broad expertise in environmental and social impact assessments, community planning, transportation studies, economic and socioeconomic analysis and public participation methodologies. Prior to his election as Chairman, Jon has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of the North since 2014.
