District Adds Girls Stunt Cheer to Extracurricular Athletic Options
The District is launching stunt cheer at its comprehensive high schools for female students in grades 9-12. Stunt cheer is a USA Cheer-sanctioned head-to-head sport with teams competing to win the grand champion title. Stunt cheer removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps, and tumbling.
The new extracurricular athletic option is separate from sideline cheer but will replace competitive cheer held in the fall and spring. Because it is replacing another sporting activity, there is no additional cost to the District. Stunt cheer will be a spring sport with this year's inaugural season running March 20-May 6.
"This highly competitive sport requires discipline, perseverance, and strong team work - all traits we encourage our students to possess to be successful in life," said Dr. Deena Bishop, Superintendent. "I'm excited this emerging sport will allow more of our students to showcase their skill and athleticism through offerings at school."
High school girls who are interested in stunt cheer should talk with their school's activities office. Learn more about stunt cheer on USA Cheer's website (https://www.usacheer.org/
