Habitat for Humanity Completes 23-Home Subdivision & Hosting a Block Party
Help celebrate Habitat's greatest accomplishment
Habitat for Humanity Anchorage
ANCHORAGE, Alaska] (September 22, 2016) — We finished Neighbor Drive and it’s time to party! Stop by for a free hot dog and join us by celebrating Habitat’s biggest accomplishment on Saturday, September 24th from Noon-3:00 pm. The party will be located at the corner of Oklahoma and Neighbor Drive in East Anchorage. Celebrity guest, Mayor Ethan Berkowitz will be there to kick off this event and celebrate with our donors, volunteers and homeowners.
In 2011, Habitat Anchorage acquired land to build 23 safe, affordable and energy efficient houses to local families who were affected by Anchorage’s housing crisis. This subdivision is now home to a multi-cultural community of 126 children and adults.
Everyone is invited to celebrate alongside Habitat’s hard-working families who call Neighbor Drive their home. Bring your family for fun-filled games, food, and get a first-hand glance at our work by touring a Habitat house. Our mission would not be a reality without the support of hundreds of companies, churches, individuals and organizations who invested their time, talents and financial support to build houses for rent burdened families.
“The work of Habitat does much more than just sheltering people. It’s what it does for people on the inside. It’s that intangible quality of hope. We see Habitat homeowners go back to school and get their GEDs, enter college, do all kinds of things they never believed they could do before they moved into their houses. By their own initiative, through their own pride and hope, they’ve changed,” said Elaine Phillipps, Executive Director. “Affordable housing elevates our community as a whole, creating a vibrant city where all its citizens can thrive, making this a momentous occasion we can all celebrate together.”
Block Party sponsors include Property Management Services, Inc., Spenard Builders Supply, Petrotechnical Resources Alaska, Florcraft and BDO. For more information about the Block Party, please visit our event page.
