The AGC of Alaska Annual Conference is right around the corner (November 9 - 12 at The Hotel Captain Cook) and I want to take this time to share with you a few highlights for this year. For those of you who have already registered, THANK YOU for your early registration. Although we will be accepting onsite registration at the Hotel Captain Cook starting Wednesday, November 9th, registering early allows us to have your badge and registration packet ready to go and helps with our food counts.
Industry Track - Thursday, Nov . 10
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. -- Workers’ Comp 101 with Chuck Brady, Workers’ Compensation Manager, Lower 48, Risk Management for ASRC.
10:15 – 11:45 a.m. -- Surviving an Active Shooter, Don Krohn, First National Bank Alaska
1:45 – 3:15 p.m. -- Safety Session - Come hear from the new AGC Safety Committee as they talk about the Global Harmonized System, how injuries effect construction bids in today’s environment, and learn about the new Safety Databank and the committees upcoming projects.
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. -- PTAC Session—URL Credibility is On the Line. What does your website say about you? Gary Bushor, PTAC Contract Specialist
Emerging Leaders Track - Thursday, Nov. 10
9:00 – 10:15 a.m. -- Walk a Day in My Shoes...Learn how to improve your work and to react better to project partner’s needs and constraints! Panel to include: SBS, Spark Design, Roger Hickel Contracting, Klebs Mechanical & M.I.S.T.Y. Consulting.
10:30 – 11:45 a.m. -- Handling Mistakes and Difficult People with Rick Birdsall, The Growth Company. This session will cover: What Effective Leadership Looks Like; Managing Generational Conflict Based on Concepts of Respect; The Psychology of Mistake Management (turning negatives into positives); & Communication Style Conflicts.
1:45 – 3:00 p.m. -- Teambuilding and Leading Through Change with Bradison Group. During this session can expect a candid presentation and applicable change management skills. Paula combines her "real world" epic failures with proven skills to not only recover, but to elevate teams to excellence. Expect humor, transparency and skills you can apply as we walk through the eight stages of leading effective change.
3:15 – 4:30 p.m. -- Come learn more about the levels of AGC! The Emerging Leaders group, AGC of Alaska, and AGC of America are all related, but serve different important functions - do you know the differences? We'll make sure you leave the session knowing more about the benefits available to you through your organization.
Family Night: Join us for FAMILY FUN NIGHT on Nov. 11th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the American Fast Freight Warehouse. Adults are only $10 and children under 12 get in FREE.
VENDOR ROOM UPDATE
One new feature of the Vendor Room this year will be Lead Retrieval. This allows the Vendors to scan your QR code in the AGC of Alaska Event app (you must be logged in at the time) and all registered conference attendees who visit all 28 booths and get their QR code scanned will have their name entered into drawing for an iPad Air.
Also in the Vendor Room this year, AGC Health Benefit Trust is excited to offer a flu shot clinic to all AGC members attending the Vendor Reception on Thursday, November 10th. If you have not yet obtained your flu vaccine this year, Safeway Pharmacy will be available in Booth 28 from 4-6 pm. If you present a valid medical ID card at the time of service, the vaccine is free with most insurance. (If you do not have coverage, the vaccine will range between $30-40.)
