Arctic Encounter Symposium Seattle Pleased to Announce Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott of Alaska as Speaker
The Arctic Encounter Symposium is pleased to announce the confirmation of the Honorable Byron Mallott, Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, as a distinguished speaker at the Arctic Encounter Symposium taking place in Seattle on January 15-16, 2016.
“We are honored to welcome Lt. Gov. Mallott as a distinguished speaker at the 3rd annual Arctic Encounter Symposium in Seattle in January. His distinguished service and inspiring messages about the Alaskan way of life and culture will provide a unique perspective for those yearning to know more about Alaska's policy priorities and the people of the Arctic,” said Rachel Kallander, Executive Director of the Arctic Encounter Symposium. “We are thrilled to have Lieutenant Governor Mallott’s participation this year."
Lt. Gov. Mallott became the 12th and current Lieutenant Governor of Alaska in December of 2014. The beginning of his and Governor Bill Walker’s time in office has coincided with the United States assuming the chair of the Arctic Council, the appointment of the first ever cabinet-level official for Arctic affairs in Alaska, and the announcement that Alaska will rejoin the Northern Forum.
Lt. Gov. Mallott’s life in public service began at the age of just 22 when he was elected mayor of Yakutat, Alaska. He later served as the mayor of Alaska’s third largest city, Juneau. Additionally, he has served as the president of the Alaska Federation of Natives, executive director of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation, co-chair of the Commission on Rural Governance and Empowerment, chair of the Nature Conservancy of Alaska and president and CEO of First Alaskans Institute and Sealaska Corporation.
In addition to Lieutenant Governor Mallott, a complete list of confirmed speakers for the upcoming Arctic Encounter Symposium events in both Paris and Seattle can be found online at www.ArcticEncounter.com.
