ANCHORAGE – Learn more about the Arctic from a social, political and economic point of view at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s “Make it Monday” forum on Monday, August 21, 2017. Importantly for Anchorage, the Arctic covers most of the state and intersects directly with Anchorage business interests. Anchorage is one of the main gateways to the Arctic and a critical logistics and communications hub. With the end of the U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council, Alaska faces new options in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the Arctic. Nils Andreassen, Executive Director of the Institute of the North, has a degree in Peace and Development from the University of Bradford in England and his background in rural and international development, Alaska and Arctic policy issues fit well within the Institute’s mission to inform public policy as it relates to natural resource development, and specifically to result in improved living and economic conditions for northern residents. The Institute has a legacy working on Arctic infrastructure priorities and policies that serve to strengthen and connect northern communities.
The “Make it Monday” forum will be held at the Dena’ina Center from Noon to 1 pm. Doors open at 11:30 am. General admission is $35. $30 for Anchorage Chamber members ($32 at the door), and $15 for students with a valid ID. Lunch is provided with admission. The Anchorage Chamber's "Make it Monday" forum is the city's No. 1 weekly luncheon, offering current and relevant educational presentations from a variety of speakers. More than 45 programs are provided annually with the number of attendees ranging from 50 up to as many as 150 a week.
