The ribbon-cutting program begins at 4 p.m., followed by self-guided walking tours of the Alaska Airlines Center. Guests will be given a map of the building and UAA student-athletes will be stationed at various points in the building to highlight the facility’s key interests.
Following the grand opening ceremony is the Springhill Suites Invitational volleyball tournament at 7 p.m., with the Seawolves taking on LIU Post.

Join the University of Alaska Anchorage to cut the ribbon and celebrate the official grand opening of the new Alaska Airlines Center. The Home of the Seawolves spans 196,000 square feet and boasts a 5,000-seat main arena, an 800-seat auxiliary gym, gymnastics practice and competition areas, a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility, a weight room and training area for UAA student-athletes, and a student recreation area. Another feature, the 100-seat Varsity Sports Grill, overlooking the center’s main arena, will open in October and will feature cutting-edge bistro cuisine with a focus on locally grown ingredients and fresh Alaska seafood.
This facility will be a hub of activity for the UAA campus and the Anchorage community, hosting UAA athletic competitions, high school and college graduations, concerts, youth, campus and other community events.
