We Bought the Land!

Come celebrate with us!

We are very excited and pleased to announce the purchase of the final parcel of land needed to build Ravens' Roost! Purchase of the remaining, 4.1-acre parcel means that we now control the entire 6.3 acres. This is a huge step forward, which frees us up to focus on the next steps: recruiting more members so we can move ahead with construction next spring. To see aerial and ground photos of the land, click here. To see our site plan, click here.  Please celebrate with us at one of the coming events described below!

Presentation by Members: Bicycling Across the Lower 48

Wednesday, October 2, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Anchorage Unitarian Fellowship Sanctuary (main room upstairs)

Ravens' Roost Cohousing members Nancy Felton and Chris Allard will share photos and stories about bicycling across the country (and then down to Florida!) in the summer of 2012.  Come enjoy this 30-minute show, meet other cohousing members, and enjoy snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Displays about our cohousing project will be available for your perusal. Click here for address and map to the Fellowship.

Public Talk: Kathryn McCamant, "Queen of Cohousing" in North America

"It Takes a Village... at any Age!"

Sunday, October 13, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Wilda Marston Theater, Loussac Library

Kathryn McCamant, a licensed architect, co-authored the books Cohousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves and more recently, Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities. She and her husband, Charles Durrett, introduced cohousing to North America in 1987, and have consulted on over 50 cohousing communities, including Ravens' Roost. Kathryn has received numerous awards, and has lived in cohousing in California for 17 years. For more details on Kathryn, and a map to this free talk, click here.

Walk on the Land, Treasure Hunt, Food

Sunday, October 27, 4:30 - 7:30 pm

Visit the land on which Ravens' Roost Cohousing will be built.  Bring the kids for a treasure hunt!  Afterwards, stroll a block to our architect's house for a bite to eat.  Meet more members and check out our displays. For more details, address, and a map, click here.

New Members!

We are thrilled to warmly welcome Jan and Dick as our newest members. They are both long-time Alaskans, originally from Idaho and Wisconsin, respectively.  Jan worked in computer technology, and Dick owns a heavy equipment company on the North Slope. They are our 11th household.

Ravens' Roost members Terri, Joe, Jeff, Nancy, Chris, Mary, potential members Karen & Bob, and brand-new member Jan celebrate our recent purchase of land at the Bear Tooth.  Doesn't Jan look happy?  Be like Jan -- be bold, and take the next step toward joining Ravens' Roost Cohousing!
