The Children’s Lunchbox receives $43,416 grant from Walmart Foundation

Anchorage, Alaska – September 20, 2013 – The Children’s Lunchbox, a program of Bean’s Café, has been awarded a $43,416 grant from the Walmart Foundation.  The funds will be used to support a weekend food program which feeds hungry children at five Title 1 schools in Anchorage. The funds have specifically been targeted to fund the weekend food program at Muldoon Elementary School.

The Children’s Lunchbox has been serving meals to hungry children in Anchorage since 1998.  The program is the second largest childhood nutrition program in Anchorage after the Anchorage School District.  Currently over 2,200 meals are served each week to hungry children in Anchorage.

According to Lisa Sauder, Bean’s Café executive director, “The Children’s Lunchbox is thrilled to be a recipient of this grant from the Walmart Foundation.  Their support of local programs to help children in need is much appreciated.  Very few people realize the hunger issues faced by over 20,000 school aged children right here in Anchorage.”

Representatives from The Children Lunchbox will be presented with a ceremonial check at the grand opening of the new Walmart superstore located at 7405 DeBarr Rd at 7:30 am on Wednesday, September 25. Media representatives are welcome to attend.
